Watermelon Days Parade

Quimby has never ever had such a long parade!  I'm sure of it.  As we sat in line with the pickups and the fertilizer spreaders, I was amazed at the number of parade participants!  A little different than our block long homecoming parades we used to have.
Mom and Dad were pretty tickled that we were pulling their fertilizer spreaders in the parade.  We had a good number of the family members in the back of the truck in the hot humid weather, throwing candy.

Before the parade started I lectured the children on having a candy strategy but did anyone listen to me?  Of course not!!  Here's a cheater for you...  If you go to a parade to accumulate some candy, make sure you stand at the beginning of the parade!  There is nothing more sad and depressing than the children at the end of the parade who get jipped out of all the goodies!
After the parade, we got to enjoy the car show and then some arm wrestling.  The arm wrestling was quite exciting!  I think the girls were a bit amazed.  :-)  I hadn't seen arm wrestling since high school at the Cherokee county fair.  That was a long time ago.
At 8:00 p.m. Quimby served the free watermelon and then we just hung out and talked to friends while the girls and Mom played Bingo.  It was a fun evening.  I'm not too good with the high school reunion stuff but it was fun to catch up with a couple people.
