Kasey's weekend

We were fortunate enough to have Kasey come home for the weekend.  On the agenda of course was watching the new Batman movie Dark Knight rising!  But as with any visit, there are lots of Johnson Ranch activities besides the movie that keeps us busy!!
One of these was enjoying our first batch of sweetcorn for the summer!  Yes!  I love sweetcorn!  I put Kasey to work.  :-)
Is this how you husk corn??
We have also been babysitting for the last couple of weeks so Kasey got to know the babysittee a little better.  :-)
Kasey and bear
Mike was busy busy busy fixing a post I'm pretty sure Charlie broke off.  Charlie likes to rub his rear on stuff so I'm guessing, he scratched on this post til it broke.  :-)
I think it is crooked!  Better dig it up!
Mike was really sweating!  It was super hot on Sunday!  So he was looking a little rough when he got done...
?????  What the??
Kasey spent a little quality time with the ladies.  They liked Kasey....  They could tell she's an animal lover!
And finally I had to do some shampooing like normal!  Kasey ran the fire hose!  :-)

It was a fun weekend with my middle child.  We even discovered an endless bank of bad Chuck Norris jokes!  Can you say heaven for Jeri!  :-D  Unfortunately now, everyone has to suffer the jokes at my expense.  ha ha!!  Too bad!!  ha ha!
Sorry it's taken awhile for a post.  It's been a little wild the last couple of weeks.  See ya next weekend or see ya when I see ya!  Stay cool!

One last parting thought....  Chuck Norris's mother called him Charles once......  once.  :-D

Ava's first show

I finally got the digital photo from Ava's first show.  Isn't she beautiful??  :-)
Hopefully in a couple months, Ava and I will be back at it!

Still got a smile!

Ava had her surgery on Friday morning/afternoon.  The vet told me it took a bit but they eventually did get her all fixed up.  :-)  We didn't pick her up until Saturday morning because it took her awhile to work through the anesthesia.  Ava was happy to be home!!  And here she is..  with the lovely collar on again!
Mom!  I'm so happy to be home!
She was still feeling pretty good.  The incisions are pretty ouchie though...  But considering everything I think the vet really did a nice job on her.
Eventually Ava did get a little pouty.  She wanted to go outside even though I wanted to keep her inside as much as possible.  So I did relent and let little poopyface out for some sun today.
I want to go outside and play!
So Ava enjoyed the beautiful day under her favorite tree chewing on a couple of bones.  It's been a rough few days for her so she deserved a little enjoyment.  Then after a while, she was back in the house passed out on the floor again.
Besides babysitting Ava all weekend, we got to go out and spend some time with some good friends which was great!  That doesn't happen very often so when it does, we really enjoy it.  Well, that's pretty much it for this weekend, except for chasing some escaped goats around the yard.  ;-)  See ya when I see ya!

Exhausting Weekend!

Such an exciting weekend, it's almost too much to take!!
After we all got back to Hartley, the girls took a nap and eventually we all ended up chilling in the garage.  There was just almost too much excitement to bear!  Good to kick back for a couple!  :-)
Nice!

After a relaxing evening of chilling in the garage and watching a movie, the girls and Brent will be headed home tomorrow morning.  :-(  what a fantastic weekend!  Have a great 4th of July!  See ya when I see ya!

Family Pictures!

After the Little Kitchen excitement, we all got together a few last moments for a family picture.

What a motley crew!  We took lots of pictures but the sun was bright and the morning was hot and humid!!!  so we did have some challenges...  and complaining.  :-)
We wondered what a picture would look like where all of our eyes were closed!  Imagine the irony!  So here we are...  :-)  What can I say..  The sun was just too bright!  ha ha!

Three princesses!  Aren't they precious!

The Little Kitchen

Sunday morning brunch found the family reunion gathering at the Little Kitchen, a small restaurant in Quimby.  It was a pretty packed house!

Kelsey and Brent

Rabbit ears Dad!!
We had a good brunch and had some time to talk a little more with all the relatives.  It was a lot of fun.
Cousin Lisa and her autographed bingo card...  Apparently the drummer from the band was signing!

Cousin Susan and Cousin Sam!

I got a great hug from my cousin Pat
Who would have thought the Little Kitchen was such a hopping place at 11:00 a.m. on a Sunday Morning!

Watermelon Days Parade

Quimby has never ever had such a long parade!  I'm sure of it.  As we sat in line with the pickups and the fertilizer spreaders, I was amazed at the number of parade participants!  A little different than our block long homecoming parades we used to have.
Mom and Dad were pretty tickled that we were pulling their fertilizer spreaders in the parade.  We had a good number of the family members in the back of the truck in the hot humid weather, throwing candy.

Before the parade started I lectured the children on having a candy strategy but did anyone listen to me?  Of course not!!  Here's a cheater for you...  If you go to a parade to accumulate some candy, make sure you stand at the beginning of the parade!  There is nothing more sad and depressing than the children at the end of the parade who get jipped out of all the goodies!
After the parade, we got to enjoy the car show and then some arm wrestling.  The arm wrestling was quite exciting!  I think the girls were a bit amazed.  :-)  I hadn't seen arm wrestling since high school at the Cherokee county fair.  That was a long time ago.
At 8:00 p.m. Quimby served the free watermelon and then we just hung out and talked to friends while the girls and Mom played Bingo.  It was a fun evening.  I'm not too good with the high school reunion stuff but it was fun to catch up with a couple people.

Watermelon Days! Family Reunion

It's time again for Quimby's annual celebration!  This year we also had our Pendleton/Green Family reunion at the same time!  Double the fun!  Double the excitement!
Friday night we all headed for Quimby to stay with Mom and Dad!  We got to go uptown Friday night and see some of my friends and old classmates.
Saturday, the reunion activities started!  At lunch, Brent got his grillin' on!  We grilled and ate burgers and brats in Mom's back yard.

We also bought a cake for Brent, Kelsey, and Karley for their graduations...  It was excellent cake!  I did steal some frosting off of it myself!  :-)
Our Watermelon days was off to a great start and the fun was only beginning!
